Based on the same core technology as Antares's Auto-Tune plug-in and the 1999 TEC Award-nominated ATR-1, the ATR-1a adds key new features and updated cosmetics. Like the ATR-1, the ATR-1a provides the ability to correct the pitch of a voice or solo instrument in real time, without distortion or artifacts, while preserving all of the expressive nuance of the original performance. Key new features in the ATR-1a include: ¥ Bass Mode: Bass Mode lowers the ATR-1a's lowest detectable frequency by about one octave to 25Hz. Since the lowest E string on a bass guitar is approximately 41Hz, Bass Mode allows pitch correction over the full range of the bass guitar as well as other low bass range instruments. ¥ Make Scale From MIDI: For occasions where one wants to pitch correct a melody line whose key is ambiguous, or where the line has too many accidentals to fit comfortably into a conventional scale, the the ATR-1a's new Make Scale From MIDI function allows one to simply play the line into the ATR-1a from a MIDI keyboard or sequencer and have the ATR-1a automatically construct a custom scale containing only those notes that appear in the line. ¥ A spiffy new front panel design. "Blah, blah, blah," said Marco Alpert, Antares's Vice President of Marketing. "When was the last time any editor actually used one of these obligatory quotes, anyway? Everything anyone needs to know about the ATR-1a is in the paragraphs above, except for the price and upgrade info, which is coming up right here." The ATR-1a is available now with an MSRP is the U.S.A. of $849.00. An upgrade kit to add the new features to an original ATR-1 is available for $49.95. Customers who bought an ATR-1 after August 1, 2000 can receive the upgrade kit at no charge.
