You subscribed to AutoTune Unlimited or purchased a plugin. Now what?
Getting set up for the first time can feel like the hard part, especially if you've never installed audio software before. It isn't, though. Once you understand the steps, the whole process takes less than 15 minutes. This guide walks you through everything from downloading AutoTune Central to loading your plugins in your DAW, so you can stop reading and start making music.
Step 1: Download and Install AutoTune Central
AutoTune Central is the desktop application that manages all of your AutoTune downloads, licenses, and updates in one place. Think of it as your home base for everything AutoTune. Before you can install any plugins, this is your first stop.
Head to autotune.com, log in to your account, and download AutoTune Central for your operating system. AutoTune Central is available for both Mac and Windows.
Once the installer downloads, open it and follow the on-screen prompts. The installation is straightforward and takes just a couple of minutes.
Step 2: Log In and Activate Your License
Open AutoTune Central after installation. You'll be prompted to log in with the same email and password you used to purchase or subscribe.
AutoTune uses the iLok licensing system to manage your plugin licenses. If you don't already have an iLok account, you'll need to create one at iLok.com. It's free, and it takes about two minutes. Your licenses live in your iLok account, which makes them portable and easy to manage across multiple machines.
Once you're logged in to AutoTune Central, your available plugins will appear in the dashboard, ready to download.
Step 3: Download and Install Your Plugins
Inside AutoTune Central, you'll see every plugin included with your subscription or purchase. Click the download button next to the plugins you want to install. AutoTune Central handles the installation automatically.
A few things worth knowing here:
Install locations matter. During installation, your plugins will be placed in the standard VST3, AU (Audio Unit), and AAX directories on your system. Most DAWs scan these folders automatically, so you typically won't need to point your DAW anywhere manually.
Restart your DAW after installing. If your DAW was open during installation, close it and reopen it before you scan for new plugins. This ensures your DAW picks up everything that was just installed.
You can install everything at once or start with just what you need. If you're new to AutoTune, a solid starting point is AutoTune 2026 and the AI-Powered Vocal Chain plugins: Vocal EQ, Vocal Compressor, Vocal De-Esser, and Vocal Reverb. You can always come back to install more later.
Step 4: Load AutoTune in Your DAW
This is where things vary slightly depending on which DAW you're using. Here's exactly how to load AutoTune plugins in the most popular options.
Ableton Live
Open your project and click on an audio track. In the browser on the left side, open the Plugins section and select either VST3 or AU depending on your preference. Find AutoTune in the list, then drag it onto your audio track. The plugin window will open automatically.
If AutoTune doesn't appear in your browser, go to Live's Preferences, open the Plugins tab, and make sure the correct plugin folder is enabled for scanning.
FL Studio
Go to the Mixer and select a mixer track. Click an empty insert slot in the effects chain on the right side of the Mixer. Navigate to Select, then find AutoTune under VST3 plugins. If you need to point FL Studio to your VST folder manually, go to Options, then Manage Plugins, and add the folder path.
GarageBand
Select your audio track and open the Smart Controls panel at the bottom of the screen. Click the Plugins button, then the "+" icon to add a new plugin. Navigate to Audio Units, then Antares, and select your plugin. GarageBand supports AU plugins on Mac.
Logic Pro
Click on an audio track to select it. In the channel strip on the left, click one of the Audio FX slots and navigate to Audio Units, then Antares, and select your plugin from the submenu. Logic uses the AU format exclusively, so make sure you installed the AU version through AutoTune Central.
If the plugin doesn't appear, go to Logic's Preferences and open the Plugin Manager. From there you can rescan and validate your installed plugins.
Pro Tools
Open your session and click on an audio or auxiliary track. In the inserts section, click an empty slot and navigate to Plugin, then select Antares from the manufacturer list. Pro Tools uses the AAX format, so make sure you installed the AAX version.
Troubleshooting: Plugin Not Showing Up?
This is the most common issue new users run into, and it's almost always one of three things.
Your DAW hasn't scanned for new plugins yet. Close your DAW completely and reopen it. Most DAWs scan for new plugins on launch. If yours has a manual scan option, run it from the plugin or preferences settings.
The plugin format doesn't match what your DAW supports. Make sure the format you installed (VST3, AU, or AAX) is the one your DAW uses. Logic only supports AU. Pro Tools only supports AAX. Most other DAWs support VST3 and may also support AU on Mac.
Your iLok license isn't activated. Open iLok License Manager on your computer and make sure your licenses are activated on your machine or iLok USB key. If a license isn't activated, the plugin will either not open or display a licensing error when you try to load it.
If you're still running into issues after checking these three things, AutoTune's support team is available to help you get sorted out.
You're Ready to Go
Once your plugins are loaded and your license is active, you're set. Open AutoTune 2026 on your vocal track, set your Key and Scale to match your song, and start dialing in your sound.
If you're not sure where to go from here, the AI-Powered Vocal Chain is the fastest way to get professional-sounding vocals out of any recording. Each plugin includes an Assist or Learn function that analyzes your audio and sets optimal starting points automatically.
The tools are installed. The session is open. The only thing left is to hit record.
